In 2018 these awards will be held on Thursday 6 September.
Hobart Royal Fine Food Show
Established in 1995 and one of the most respected and longest running food awards in Australia, The Royal Hobart Fine Food Awards is held in the last week of July each year. The Fine Food Awards is evolving at a rapid pace and each year aim to add new classes and sections to keep up with the ever changing trends of the Australian food industry, consumer tastes and needs.
The awards aim to promote and encourage excellence in the Australian food industry by providing a quality bench-marking system that enables fine food producers to assess the quality of their products against their contemporaries and competitors. The awards encourage feedback and it is not unusual to see manufacturers approaching these awards as a learning exercise, growing and adjusting each year in an effort to improve and ultimately achieve gold.
In 2018 the awards dinner will be combined with the Royal Hobart Wine Awards dinner on August 18. Gold medal food and wine from the 2017 shows will be served in an all you eat and drink gold medal taste sensation prepared by executive chef Paul Foremen.
Members of the public are welcome to attend and at $100 per head all inclusive the evening represents excellent value and includes live entertainment. Tickets will available via the Online Ticketing button above shortly but seats will be limited. Discounts available for RAST members and tables of 10 or more.
Great Taste Awards, London – 2-Stars (2017)
Great Taste is the world’s largest and most trusted food and drink awards.
Putting food or drink to the test with a panel of over 500 experts is a quick way to get honest, straightforward and impartial feedback from chefs, buyers, food writers and retailers. Whether your product receives a 1, 2 or 3-star accolade, Great Taste stars are highly respected seals of approval.
Quite simply Great Taste encourages greater confidence and commercial success in small businesses locally, regionally, nationally and internationally whilst helping to improve the food and drink of those who don’t quite make the grade.
**In 2017 Pialligo Estate Smokehouse bacon was one of only 7 producers to receive two-stars for our full-rasher of smoked bacon (there were no 3 stars awarded) – judging criteria based on appearance, presentation, smell and taste.
How it works
Over 500 judges working in small teams judged 12,366 food and drink products in 2017 at 62 judging days, from March through to early July 2017. They awarded one-, two or three-stars to the foods that deserved it with one of the judges on each team captured constructive feedback for the producers who didn’t quite make the grade.
Each year the judging roadshow ventures somewhere different. Last year saw the Great Taste HQ team go to Llandrillo College, north Wales. In April they opened a new judging, training and event space close Borough Market, London and conducted three weeks of judging there, now the permanent home in London for all Guild of Fine Food activities.
The Guild of Fine Foods
At the heart of the fine food world since 1995, the Guild supports and promotes speciality food producers and the independent delis, farm shops and food halls that sustain them.
Backed by 1,300 members, it runs the influential Great Taste and World Cheese Awards.
